Single Moms

OK, so she might not take me on an extra walk today for saying this, but yes, my mom is single. I am not complaining. Heck, it just means more attention for me!

Because of our situation though I sniffed out this article. It's funny and cute, but I don't think mom and I are this bad....are we? And the article says we play poker? We do? I need to learn...

Read the whole, funny article here.
"Sorry," my friend said, but I could tell we'd reached the end of any kind of intelligent conversation. I could picture her on the other end of the line, staring moony-eyed at her special guy -- his tousled brown hair, his deep golden eyes, his four hairy legs.

That's right. Like many single women these days, my friend Michelle is madly in love with her dog. Not that there's anything wrong with loving your pets (or companions or special furry friends or whatever you prefer to call the animules in your life)...But the relationship between Michelle and her Buddy -- heck, between a lot of single women and their dogs -- seemed to transcend the normal pet-owner boundaries.

Magazine Mutt

A love for magazines runs in my bloodline. In fact, my mom (shameless woof out coming) actually runs a magazine. Her's is a lifestlye magaizne called East West. While it's nice and all, there's generally not much in it for me. Just little snippets from time to time. Oh and when I was younger, some modeling opportunities.

Yes, these are my model shots. And yes, mom dressed me up in a girl's outfit! And yes, my tail was rather poofy. It was the era. And admittedly, at the time, I was willing to do anything for fame. Now I just wish the puparazzi would simmer down and stopping being all up in my whiskers. I am too old for this dog crap.
Back to my point....
Magazines, I like them. I used to just use them as a fun ripping and chewing diversion, but I have now found some I can actually relate to. My new favorite is one we got recently called Fido Friendly. It is all about you and traveling. It is very informative and makes me wish I wasn't so darn afraid of the car all these years...I could have been a world traveler...if only...

The current Fall issue has some great reads and licks like Top Hotel Chefs that cater to us peeps (see page 22 for the Barking Beef Tenderloin recipe), travel tips, fun hikes and there is a regular column called Diary of a Dog Chef which this time includes a recipe for Pumpkin a La Mode...sounds barkalicious.
Pumpkin A La Mode (for dogs, from Fido Friendly)
1/4 cup fresh pumpkin
1/4 cup cooked rice
1/3 cup of slightly boiled chicken, cut into small pieces
A large dollop of cottage cheese

Put the pumpkin the dish, cover with the rice, then the chicken cubes and the final touch of cottage cheese. Serve
Speaking of rice, I gotta cruise over to the kitchen now. Mom is serving up homemade chicken and rice soup since I have the sniffles today probably cause my dusty cousin Indy is back. Gah.

Mom's soup and Fido Friendly both get TWO PAWS UP!

Back to Barkin'

Woof! I'm back. Thanks for all the good thoughts and waggin wishes while I was under the weather last week. My legs are still admitedly a bit wobbly, but I guess some arthritis is to be expected at my age. And R&R really helps.

Speaking of some good relaxation, have you heard about the trend toward doggie spa treatments? I think I'm too old to truly enjoy it now. Gosh, why didn't dumbo people think of this when I was in my heyday?
But I digress....

Check out this doggie spa package from a resort in AZ. One of many aunties, Lisa, is the spagirl that got the scoop.

More Pups Needed

Hello Not-A-Dog fans. This is Cody's mom here.

As you can see he is sleeping in today. He is having some leg pain lately and asked me to put out a call for some help in keeping this blog up to paw. Old men can't do it all.

If you know of any gifted barkers that have growls to share, send them our way. Contact me at neetsmalik@cox.net

And remember to signup for email updates from this blog (see sidebar). Also, in order to keep you informed, we've add the Cody health meter on the side. Today is a yellow, but if we go by his history, tomorrow will surely be a green. So Cody promises to be back soon with a roundup of some new favorites. He's been quite busy researching.

Spicey Hot

Just devoured some chicken curry, which got me to contempawing about spices.

I seem be happier and my old man blues tend to lessen when I eat slightly spicey dishes. When my mom goes all bland on me for too long, day after day of plain chicken, I start to feel yuck. You know?

I hear us not-a-dog type individuals aren't supposed to eat onions, but after nearly 16 years of picky eating, I think I have the authority to say that sometimes a little spice, some kick, goes a long way. Your thoughts? And why no onions? anyone know?

Oh and now you can send me a woof out on Facebook. Well actually it is Dogbook, a Facebook component. Search for me under my mom's profile: Anita Malik. Hope to add you as a friend soon!

My Eyes

You can see my eyes again. Aren't they cute?

I hit the salon earlier this week for a new look, and when I was roaming the streets last night, a neighbor asked my mom if she got a new puppy. Woof! I guess I just keep looking younger and younger. I gotta find a way to bottle this trait of mine, I could make a fortune or at least enough for some of those new treats I like. My uncle brought some over, they're are called Happy Hips. Silly name, but yummy chicken goodness.

Today I Growl At

Some people makin' laws in Malaysia.

The Malaysia Star reports that the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) has plans to organize a dog-catching competition.

Selayang Municipal Council’s (MPS) decision to hold a competition to rid the place of stray dogs drew a lot of flak from animal rights groups and pet owners.

Clearly, the uproar is over the council’s unconventional, if not risky, approach to resolving the high number of strays in the municipality.

Cash prizes of up to RM15,000 would be dished out to any individual or group that could catch more than 150 stray dogs within six months. A sum of RM20 would be given for each stray dog caught alive.

This is plain idoitic and shows a great amount of disrespect to us. I growl on behalf of my brothers on the other side of the globe. I'm originally from Asia myself, so I feel connected. Yes, us Lhasas, we from Tibet. Peace.

Average Ain't Bad

My ma was waiting at the doctor's office and saw this article in Prevention about pups and our memories and smarts. So of course, she rushed home and made me take it. I was busy napping, but clearly that did not matter.

Ask your mom or pop to help you take it. Quite chew-worthy.

Click here and go through all the pages.

I only scored as average. But I bet in my younger days I was waggin way above average!

Plus as my mom sings to me, "I got the brains (her), you got the looks(me)...let's make lots of money!"

I may not be a genius, but I am darn handsome. Tommorow I get a haircut!

A Long Week

I can't believe it's been more than a week since I last posted.

Sorry, I've been kinda under the weather and then busy. My cousin Indy is staying with us this week and it is exhausting! I have to boss her around and make sure she doesn't get to eat anything without me, and for an old guy that's very tiring.

But, she is finally going home tomorrow. Woof!
So I will get back to my story telling soon. People have been asking for my coyote attack story. It is coming. For now, back to supervising that girl. The only good thing about her visit is that we get some special treats. Yesterday it was Sausage McMuffins from McD's. I definitely cleaned my face on the couch after that meal. Yum. But, if we're being honest, the muffin is just plain unnecessary.

Here's an action shot of me trying to get my food out of the bag. Funny. I'm a big fur blur.

Oh and one of my mom's friends got engaged last night. So here's a woof out: Congratulations Auntie Geeta!
